Music is Medicine

I’ve enjoyed a lifelong relationship with music, and have performed in almost every conceivable context: music competitions, rock bands, contemporary and classical instrumental ensembles, art-noise audio-visual performance, studio recordings and yoga classes.

Music was my first spiritual practice: helping me develop discipline, continually offering inspiration, and connecting me to the healing power of sound and intimate connection with others.

In the early 1990s I studied music theory extensively and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA as a guitar performance major. My focus more recently has been on the use of music and sound for ritual, healing and inner exploration.

I credit my time with vocal teachers the Gundecha Brothers, Silvia Nakkach, Anne Schaefer, vedic chant teachers Srivatsa Ramaswami, Sonia Nelson and Danielle Tarantola, and the curanderos of the Amazon who helped me to discover the healing power of my own voice.

Music Medicine Journeys

Since 2016 I’ve been offering yoga and music medicine journeys, solo and with my wife Debbie, a gifted vocalist and musician, and occasionally other collaborators. In these journeys, it’s our intention to create an environment that allows for deep inward exploration by the participants. Whenever possible, we start the session with a simple breath and movement practice which serves to calm the mind and relax the body, allowing for greater receptivity and connection to one’s inner awareness. People have reported deep relaxation, insight and integration of past plant medicine experiences. One of my favourite testimonials was someone who exclaimed, “That was better than ayahuasca!”.

Along with my wife Debbie and other collaborators, I’ve offered yoga and music medicine journeys throughout Canada, the USA and deep in the jungles of the Peruvian Amazon.
